My nappy is leaking through the fabric! What do I need to check?

Positive Negative

1. Firstly if the nappy is an absorbent fitted nappy, it would need a separate nappy cover/wrap over the nappy to be waterproof.

2. If there is no PUL in your nappy outer/cover (i.e. using polar fleece or wool as the waterproof layer), moisture that evaporates through the outer layer may feel damp, especially if bub has been sitting/lying in the same position on a firm surface for a long time. This is called 'Compression Leaking'.

3. If your nappy has PUL fabric in one of the layers, check for splits in the laminate (not possible if the nappy is an all in one!). PUL does breakdown eventually after continuous use. You may choose to continue using the nappy with a separate cover over it. If it is a pocket nappy, you could also reuse as a swim nappy without the inserts, assuming the elastic is still in good condition.

In event of any faulty fabric, please mention it to your retailer or manufacturer. Especially if it is within 3-6 months of purchase.
