Australia Day Market 2012

I had a great day at the market at Bicentennial Square Bunbury on Australia Day yesterday. With the forecasted heat wave (41ºC!) and having to set up from 10-11am, I was a bit nervous in the lead up to the market.

While setting up (next door to the Tourist Information Centre), Dame Edna came by to assist me in promoting my stall…

Dame Edna came to visit my market stallOn the table I had a few bags of Rockin Green Laundry Detergent, various wetbags on special, cloth wipes and packs of inserts.

The blue lacy throw was crocheted in the summer of 2006, and the crochet bowl for the wipes was made a couple of months ago.

ecoBumba nappies were pegged up like bunting, and more ecoBumba nappies were displayed on hangers, though next time I would also include the inserts on the hanger somehow.

Samples and business cards on this table.I also brought along the three nappies that will be up for sale at WAHM Delights: the brown giraffe twin ecoBumba nappy set and the brightly coloured Blue Sunset Waves ecoBumba nappy. Only managed a side view though.

The three WAHM Delights nappies to be sold on Sunday 29 Jan 2012 There was a good response to the nappies, particularly the cute little giraffe.

The market started at 1pm, with mainly tourists and day-trippers browsing the market stalls. At about 6pm the day cooled off, and the crowds descended, in preparation for the fireworks show at 8.30pm. I think there were more people visiting the stall in the last 3 hours than the first 4-5 hours, no thanks to the heat.

I had a better view this year of the Fireworks compared to the Australia Day markets I did in the past two years. No trees or neighbouring stalls to block the view!

Fireworks starFireworks FinaleThank you to all who came past, especially previous clients (you know who you are :) ). It  was also great to meet several like-minded clothie mums who knew modern cloth, I’m looking forward to meeting up with you again soon.

Thanks also goes to my 10+ friends who rocked up after the fireworks ended, and helped me to pack up in record time.

Stay tuned for an ex-demo nappy sale by random.org comments on this blog!

This nappy worked very hard to educate the masses about modern cloth nappies on Australia Day, and needs a new home. Sale by random.org sometime this weekend or early next week, details and photos to come.

Unplanned nappy sewing break

It’s been a while since I last posted. To think that one of my New Year’s Resolutions for the year was to blog at least once a week!

NY resolution FAIL!

I took an unplanned hiatus from actively managing Bean Sprout Bubba over the last few months since January. The last event I actively prepared for was the City of Bunbury Australia Day Fireworks Extravaganza Markets at the Bunbury foreshore.
Since then the store has been on maintenance mode with no active sewing (I packed and sent orders and met a few local clients), even through the March 2011 Nappy Hunt, due to a couple of ongoing ‘projects’ and a bout of sinusitis in early March.

Abi started Kindy this year, we’re homeschooling so it took nearly a whole term to get the hang of things.
I spent numerous nights researching homeschool subject options and now I’m more certain of the direction we’re heading with school, all set for the next 2-3 years up to Year 1 for Abi and even for Bri! I sure hope the time spent pre-planning for the girls’ education will be paid off in the next few months and years so that I can concentrate on Bean Sprout Bubba.

Little Calvin has grown a LOT as well in the past 3 months. From an extremely sleepy beginning when he was born, he is now a happy, alert, shrieking, active 9kg baby boy at 6 months old.

He loves staring at his left hand all the time

Suffice to say his sudden progress to alertness has taken some adjustment not just for me, but for the girls as well.
They have been very patient with me as we take turns to entertain the happy little guy as the girls and I run around the house doing minimal errands to reasonably keep house.

I have so much to tell you about this year, and would like to introduce a couple of awesome people I have met and clicked with during the last 3 months.
I have plans on hold for new Bubba J and ecoBumba products. I hope I can attain at least 50% of my grand plans this year, and carry out the rest in the year to come.

With that I’ll leave you to it. And I promise to blog a bit more than the past three months!

The actual prize nappy may have the print in another position, and the inner lining of the prize nappy is white microsuede. I couldn’t find anymore coordinating blue microsuede to finish off the rest of the nappies in this print!

Green sealife ecobumba one-size pocket nappy

Designed from October 2009 in collaboration with local mums in Bunbury WA, it is based on the well-loved hip-snapping Bubba J modern cloth nappy design, modified to become a one-size stylish nappy.

ecoBumba one-size pocket nappy grows with your baby

Features and benefits include:

  • PUL laminated Polyester print outer: for waterproofness with breathability, and a stylish and colourful print on the outside without any fear of moisture wicking (like in nappies with cotton outers).
  • Microsuede lining: Keeps baby dry by wicking moisture through to the inner absorbant core.
  • Two 2-layered bamboo quick dry inserts included: Shorter insert for newborns or young infants, longer insert for older babies. Use both inserts for longer wears or even at night. All inserts unfold for a thorough wash and quick drying ability.
  • Rise snaps: nappy grows with your baby – adjust the rise according to the length of baby’s rise
  • Hip-snapping: waist and thigh fit can be set separately, ensuring a good fit for no leaks.
  • Gently curved tummy panel: to fit under tummies while providing adequate coverage.
  • Trim fit at the crotch: while providing enough room to contain messes.

Tested to fit bubs from 3.5kg up to about 15kg. You may like read more about ecoBumba and see fabric choices (see ‘Photos’), or have a look at what testers had to say.

Made by hand with love in Bunbury WA.

To make it easier to use cloth nappies, Bean Sprout Bubba has a range of nappy accessories in stock to help you use cloth when out and about, or when removing waste from nappies.

Those new to modern cloth often start off their journey into cloth nappies with a simple All-in-one (AIO) nappy, where all the waterproofing and absorbancy is sewn into the nappy. There’s no need to fiddle around with inserts or snapping bits into the nappy. (this is a BIG HINT!)
