Quick Update

By beansproutmumma, August 16, 2009 12:04 am

Has it been a few weeks already?
Since the market day, it has been really busy here.
I think my days are quite full, what with two young baby girls, a part time job and a house to keep.
Particularly with setting up the online shop, it has been really rewarding seeing it take shape.

With the rise of free and open-source resources on the internet I have managed to craft a half-decent shop, which will be unveiled as soon as I have uploaded the product descriptions and photos to the site.
Some of these resources have been mentioned an an earlier post of mine.

After that is done, I will invite a few people to test the shop and make orders (real ones, or dummy ones) just to kick the tyres so to speak, test the usability of the site and generally to make sure everything runs as smoothly as possible.

A few credits to note: ezytrader.com supplied the free default basic Prestashop template I used and DG Craft supplied the awesome free ‘Minimaliste’ Prestashop template of which I heavily modified to suit my needs.

I still have a few compulsory things to do before the shop can open:
- Set up product attributes and features
- Outline a few care and washing instructions
- Write out some store policies related to T&Cs, returns policy, delivery policies…. yeah that kind of necessary but not too exciting documents
- Double check contact us settings and
- Check inventory and update product quantities
- set up a newsletter system (PHPlist anyone?)

Other ‘nice things to have’ that are not compulsory:
- A few more bits and bobs of nappy info.
- Figure out how to keep the cart collapsed when there is nothing in the cart
