ecoBumba nappies for a custom order

A stack of ecoBumba nappies for a custom order, now awaiting pick up

I loved making these nappies.

Knowing the intended receipient sure makes it all the more personal: the baby in question is due any day now.

ecobumba nappy size settings are shown in this picture.

This nappy is designed to grow with your baby.

These nappies have been in the design and testing process for 6 months now.

From feedback from testers and from testing on my own baby, I’ve come to these conclusions:

- The nappy fits from approximately 3.5 kg to about 15kg.

- Babies (especially boys) with a more solid build than the average baby may grow out of  these nappies earlier, even if they fall within the weight range. To solve this problem, I have developed a larger OSFM version that would fit to a bigger child. This is still under development.

- The nappy fits a bit lower in the front, which may or may not be a problem for some babies and some boys. Some mums prefer fuller coverage and would prefer the large OSFM.

- The nappy is able to last all night without leaking for all test babies, using both inserts.

- The leg holes are ample enough for most babies and toddlers (except the cuddliest ones!)

Picture of bamboo inserts trimmed with blue thread

Two inserts are included with every ecoBumba nappy purchase. Long insert on top, short insert at the bottom.

Two 2-layer bamboo inserts are included with each nappy. One long insert (which you can fold into thirds) and one shorter insert. This order had inserts trimmed with blue thread to match with the overall colours of the order.

I used to include an even shorter 3-layer insert (for infants and as a booster) instead of the current 2-layer one, but feedback showed that the 3 layer insert was not enough to keep little infants/newborns dry.

So the new short insert is longer than the old short insert (am I confusing you yet? :) ), allowing carers to fold it over to make 4 layers over bamboo.

And yes, you get and extra layer of boosting for night time now too! or 6 layers if you fold into thirds (great for stuffing the front of a nappy for little boys).

Now that the customs are all done, I can start making some ecoBumba instock nappies.

As these nappies take a bit longer to prep and sew compared to Bubba J nappies, they will not be stocked as quickly as I imagine them to be. Please bear with me as I get them up in the store over the coming weeks :)

Hip Little One prize nappy

In February I took part in a blog review promotion ‘Dumping the Disposables’ at Hip Little One, and gave away one Bubba J pocket nappy to the winner of the promotion.

tartankiwi was the winner, who resides in NZ.

She picked out this lovely print for me to make a large Bubba J Deluxe pocket nappy for her.

I overlocked the insert with matching brown thread, and used a combination of blue and brown snaps on the nappy, something that you’d be hard pressed to find in mass-produced nappies.

All in all it turned out simply lovely. I hope tartankiwi likes it!

NOTE: Simone at Hip Little One is a mother of twins and she reviews all things hip and trendy for her littlies, and then gives them away as prizes.

How to use a Pocket Nappy?

I made another video the other day, with a bit of help from my three-year-old.

One of our best-selling products is the Bubba J Pocket nappy. They dry quickly as the absorbancy unfolds to a maximum of 2-3 layers, and are easy to use and care for.

Pocket nappies are a really easy concept to understand, but if you’re new to modern cloth nappies it may seem difficult to understand from words on a webpage. Which is why the video was produced to provide this information visually.

Here’s the video. It is a bit rough around the edges, and I am thinking of getting it redone when I get some spare time around Christmas time.

Check out the feedback on the Bean Sprout Bubba Facebook page. Thank you ladies for your valuable feedback, not just on the video but on product issues, requests for nappy prints and of course the positive encouragement that you give.

If you have anything to say about the video, please join in the Facebook discussion on the wall, or shoot me an email on the shop contact page.

Last night’s pocket nappy stocking is finished.

Features (see photo above):

- Hip snaps instead of front snaps: 2 rows / 3 settings allows the adjustment of waistband and leg openings independent of each other.

- Sized S, M, L: gives a snug and trim fit for a growing baby, fits from approximately 3kg to 16kg.

- Size S pockets can fit up to 8 layers of absorbancy (bamboo) with no gaping around the legs to cause leaks.

- M & L sizes have a pocket that can fit up to 12-14 layers of absorbancy (bamboo trifolds and boosters), while still maintaining a trim fit around the crotch, and leave no gapes around the legs.

Bamboo inserts and boosters are going at low prices too ($6 & $3), until the designs are finalised.

I also have plenty of hemp fleece and microfibre terry to make more inserts in the coming month.
If you wish to use hemp or microfibre instead of bamboo, contact me and we can work something out.

Cheers

Rebecca
